"First and last delivery here! No respect for..."

About: Heartlands Hospital / Maternity

This was out first child and I'm happy to say we will never be using this maternity suite ever again. We were offered no support at all even though this was our first baby. No advice given at all. The care in the delivery suite is fantastic and hats off to the team there: such a lovely bunch but here it is horrendous. My wife had an emergency c-section and was made to stand up a few hours after the operation, which resulted in heavy bleeding! She was shouted at and intimidated by one particular nurse who told her that if she didn't change babies nappy no one would do it for her. She was basically accused of being a bad mother even though she had just come out of having major abdominal surgery a few hours earlier.

My wife was scared to buzz for help because when she did she was made to feel like an inconvenience and someone seeking attention. They were swift to discharge her. Her stupidly early discharge resulted in her having complications. When she went back to hospital they were amazed that she was discharged so soon and even said that she should never have been discharged. The nursing team all seem to contradict each other and you get contradictory advice every time you are seen.

Please avoid this unit at all costs. Mothers and newborn's do not deserve to be degraded like this.

One member of staff who stood out as being fantastic was onemidwife. Their genuine empathy and taking the time to explain things stood out.
