Mr GP referred me at 10.30 on a Thursday morning for suspected prostate cancer and I was in a meeting with the consultant at 9am the next morning. Treatment started the following Tuesday in hospital consisting of hormone injection and radio therapy.
The ward staff could not have been more kind and considerate to myself, and more particularly in my view, to the other men in my ward who were obviously in pain during the night. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them - the day staff were equally as professional.
My consultant and MDT nurses have demonstrated dynamic activity, feedback and total dedication to their calling. The oncologist and their RT team as well give an air of confidence to the patient which is what you need at a traumatic time in your life. I have luckily never been ill over 61 years on this planet, but if I had to go for cancer and urology treatment anywhere in the South West I would go here without reservation.
I am sure that other people will have had different experiences of treatment but I cannot fault the RD&E on any aspect of their treatment, car parking, Wi-fi so that I could work from hospital or anything else. And the food is perfectly edible and in quantity if needed - like when the old chap in the bed opposite wanted something to eat at 2am, nothing was too much trouble.
Hopefully I can beat my illness, but whatever happens I will have had the best support I believe that I could have received at initial intervention. Thank you all for your dedicated work.
