Long wait for results

(as a service user),

My son experienced pain in his wrist. He was sent for an xray and when it did not improve after several weeks for an mri scan.

He has been told that the results will not be available for 6 to 8 weeks. He is a NQ teacher and his doctor can only suggest him remaining on sick leave while he waits for results. This is madness if I had realised this before I  would have booked him for a private scan.

I realise the country is in a very sad way but can we really afford for this kind of situation to arise, I wonder how common this crisis is affecting all sectors of the community.

Thank you for leaving your comment in relation to your son. Unfortunately there is a National shortage of radiographers which does impact on our ability to recruit. We have a current vacancy for a radiographer live at the moment. Of course I appreciate this is difficult for some patients who are undoubtedly anxious to find out their results and in your sons case in order for him to get back to work. Our current wait list for non-urgent MRI reporting is 4 weeks. However if your son can contact me via email garry.perry@walsallhealthcare.nhs.uk or via telephone 01922 656463 I can seek to get the report expedited given the circumstances you have outlined.
