What I liked
I do not like anything about this hospital. I am absolutely disgusted how they treat people, especially the elderly and disabled. My dad has been at the Leciester Royal for 7 weeks now and he has moved wards at least 8 times. He is in a fragile state of mind and gets confused very easily so the fact that they are moving him at night is only adding to his distress. What's more, he seems to be very frightened of the staff. He panics that he is going to get into trouble. This is out-of-character for my father and extremely distressing for me and my family as we cannot understand where this fear is coming from. The staff are not very helpful and they are often dismissive of us and their other patients but it is hard to say whether they are deliberately being nasty when our backs are turned. We feel helpless.
He is disabled and cannot walk but has always been able to shimmy in and out of bed with difficulty. However, after being left in bed for 3 straight weeks he has now lost all his strength. When I complained to the nurses about not getting him out of bed, they got him out of bed the next day and into a chair and left him in it from 7am until 9pm which ,for an 80 year old man who has not been out of bed for so long, is very concerning.
He also went into the hospital being able to use a commode but has now been left faeces incontinent. This is very embarrassing for him and highlights the lack of care he is being given. They cannot be bothered to get him out of bed and do not listen to his calls for assistance.
He has to have injections every 10 weeks and one vial of medicine was taken in to ensure he wouldn't miss his dose, but this was not given to him on the day he was supposed to have it despite the doctors being reminded. We think that this was lost. We phoned again on the day after he was supposed to have it but he still hadn't had it yet.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed and angry with the incompetent staff in this hospital.
