"felt a burden"

About: Northern General Hospital

underwent fundoplication and hernia repair op was in HDU due to sleep apnea. Was then transferred to another ward to be discharged they were not happy and ward manager

rang HDU to complain and said they should have discharged me from there and that they were wasting resources and time. They held this conversation on a corridor phone and raised their voice and my full name in the conversation the entire ward could hear this aggressive conversation.

I was mortified. I then went to the staff and said I will discharge myself and make it easy for you, Manager said you can't do that and I said yes I can.

There was no care or consideration shown to me bearing in mind I had just had an operation 24 hours before.

I couldn't wait to get off this ward and get home.

I am so sorry to hear about the insensitive way in which you were treated and that you could not wait to go home. We would like to look into this in more detail and provide you with a formal response about your poor experience.

Would you therefore be able to contact our Patient Services Team to provide your personal details? The team can be contacted by phone on telephone number 0114 271 2400 or you can provide details via email by going to pst@sth.nhs.uk

I will in any event be escalating your comments to the service.

Kind regards.
