"I was admitted to ward 14 in August 2010..."

About: Airedale General Hospital

What I liked

I was admitted to ward 14 in August 2010 for an operation to relieve a urine retention problem. Prior to my admission i had visited the casualty dept twice with a urine retention problem, both times i was treated quickly and with consideration & respect. On my admission to hospital i was put at ease by the nursing staff and my operation was fully explained, I was given the choice of having a local or general anasthetic and i opted for the latter. I was allocated a personal nurse who took me to the operating theatre and she was with me in the recovery room when i awoke. She fully explained the proceedure of my operation and and answered all my questions and concerns. The surgeon visited me prior to surgery and talked me through the operation and all the after effects.

On the ward i was treated well and provided with everything i needed, the nursing and domestic staf were all friendly and attentative.

What could be improved

more staff, at times the nurses had to break off and attend to other patients, it could be a considerable time before they returned.
