"I spent 5 days on Jasmine Ward following..."

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

What I liked

I spent 5 days on Jasmine Ward following a hysterectomy. All the medical, nursing and support staff I met were friendly, caring, professional and retained a sense of humour no matter how busy they were. Never having been in hospital for longer than an overnight stay I was a little anxious at having this operation but the staff soon put me at ease. Although my surgery went well, I had breathing problems but this was spotted by staff and effectively dealt with.

What could be improved

The leaflet given on discharge includes advice on activities to avoid in the first 6-8 weeks post op but no advice on activities or exercise that should be undertaken during this time. Although I was able to obtain some information from the internet (including other hospital websites and the RCOG website) this is often conflicting so it would be helpful if more advice was given, particularly as some patientsmay not have internet access.

Anything else?

I've heard stories about "horrendous hospital food" in the past but I thought the food and choice of meals was superb.

Thank you for your positive feedback about your recent stay on Jasmine Ward - I will ensure that ward staff are made aware of your kind words. Thank you also for your comments on the quality of the food, I will pass this comment to our Catering Manager.

Your comments about the extra information needed in our Discharge Leaflet are extremely useful and I will ensure that the author of the leaflet is made aware of your suggestions as to how it can be improved for all future patients.

Finally, I am very pleased that everything went well with your stay and trust you continue to make a good recovery.
