"I had to visit A&E with my four year old..."

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

What I liked

I had to visit A&E with my four year old daughter who was having breathing difficulties late on a wednesday night. I was worried at this time of the night that there would be the usual drunks and abusive language that had been thrown out of the pub. I was pleasantly surprised, the waiting room was calm and quiet and clean. Very friendly man on the snack bar selling drinks and sweeties, which was a great relief for my 8 year old son whom i had to wake to accompany me to the hospital. We were seen within about 15 minutes by the triage nurse who was fantastic with a shaken 4 year old who was struggling for breath and could not talk. She then requested a doctor saw us immediately, within 2 minutes he was with my daughter, again very friendly and very thorough. We were moved into a room to start treatment and within 10 minutes my daughter was smiling, laughing and chatting again, We were constantly checked, the passing by nurses were lovely and popped in to see my daughter, one even brought her a teddy bear. Just to be on the safe side, which an anxious mother is always grateful for, we were reffered to the childrens unit. A very pleasant nurse came and showed us the way and we were seen immediately and then seen again by a specialist who said we could go home. Considering the reasons we were there I felt so reassured that we were in the right place, the children were so relaxed they were colouring in scooby doo pictures and half past two in the morning!
