"Nurse could not wait to get rid of me"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Accident and emergency

My knee totally gave way on Saturday which was a pretty frightening experience.

I'm not someone who usually whines about the odd twinge, but as I was actually crying with pain I thought i better get this checked out. I was through triage quickly enough and was then seen very quickly by a very pleasant, professional nurse who displayed empathy and made me feel like I was being taken seriously. The nurse asked me some questions and listened to my answers. The nurse carried out a few simple tests and suggested that they carry out some xrays to rule out an avulsion.

Said that if nothing showed up on the xrays they would give me some crutches and some xrays.

The radiographer was very pleasant and professional.

I then waited for however long until I was called back in to see another nurse with the results of the xrays.

The nurse was very brusque in their manner. Said they didn't show anything other than degeneration.

Asked about any history with the knee, suggested I not do any exercise, and carried out one test. The nurse held their hand up and asked me to raise my foot to it. I could only manage about 6 inches lower than their hand so they lowered their hand to my foot instead and said That's fine and I was to go home. No explanation at all for why my knee might have given way, no suggestions for managing it other than no exercise. No exercises to help with the knee, nothing.

So I'm now left in limbo with no explanation for why I nearly faceplanted the road, and I'm now afraid to go out on my own in case it happens again. And I'm not an old person, I'm only.in my 40's!
