I was admitted as an urgency from Lancaster RI following two unexplained serious falls. A large cerebral tumour was found via a CT scan.
My treatment was carried out in two stages. Firstly an embolisation of the blood supply to the tumour was done followed by a complete excision of the growth.
At all times I was kept informed about the progress and nature of my treatment. My wife, who spent much time at the hospital, appreciated her requests on my behalf, being met with warm cooperation.
The surgical staff were obviously frustrated by the undue pressure on bed and surgical demands. My procedures were delayed and my bed situation changed regularly. (8 changes in 26 days) However I was eventually treated and am delighted that the outcome has been outstandingly successful.
I am deeply grateful for the surgical excellence of my treatment which has restored my health to enable me, at the age of 80, to look forward to more years of living an active and useful life.
At all times, I was dealt with sympathetically with a good standard of care. Nursing practices efficient and consistent. Ancillary staff - of diverse nationality , extremely pleasant and obliging. Even a desperate request for a cup of tea at 3.0 am delivered with a smile.
My experience at RPI was as good as the pressured NHS can deliver. It is obvious more beds and facilities are needed to enable the medical and surgical staff deliver the service they are so capable of.
