"A daughter with a very painful ankle"

About: Cumberland Infirmary / Accident and emergency

After somehow injuring her ankly on Tuesday, I ended up (having spoken to a very helpful NHS out of hours operator) taking my 11 year old daughter to A&E late on Thursday evening. I really didn't want to overburden the NHS as we are always hearing stories of excessive wait times and frazzled A&E staff, but felt I had no choice but to add yet another patient to their list.

From the smily, friendly receptionist, to the doctor who showed us to the toilets, the radiographer who put my daughter at ease to the nurse and doctor who dealt with my daughter, I could not fault the helpfulness of the A&E team. My daughter was listened to and her comments responded to in a very caring manner.

In the end it turned out that she had a painful sprain that should heal on its own.

Many thanks to a super team of people.

We were only in the hospital a little over 2 hours.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of attending our Accident & Emergency department at the Cumberland Infirmary with your daughter who had injured her ankle.

I am pleased that you had such a positive experience and the staff will be delighted to hear how you felt that you were both treated in a caring and helpful manner

The team work very hard to ensure patients are comfortable, that they feel listened to and included with all decisions made re treatment, discharge and follow up.

I shall ensure your comments are passed to Matron so that she can share them with the team.

Best wishes to you both.
