"My dad and dementia reaches 1st anniversary"

After a extremely traumatic few days at home back in November 2016 my intelligent practical and very independent father was diagnosed with dementia which shocked our family how quick this illness can take hold of a person. He was placed in emergency care in a residential care Home until late February when his behaviour became to much of a challenge for the staff and he was admitted to the liddington ward in the Victoria centre.The last few months have been extremely emotional for my family, to watch Dad deteriorate because of this cruel illness. I can honestly say I don’t know how we would have survived this without the continued support of all the staff here. They have looked after my dad brilliantly. As well as the everyday tasks that are always carried out to an high standerd the staff provide a caring enjoyable happy and calm environment. Every member of staff give their all to make sure every patient is safe, happy and entertained. Although they are constantly working in an stressful environment, the staff always have time to talk to the patients and family and give their complete attention to the job even making sure visitors get a welcome coffee . You can see that all patients are treated with the respect and care the staff would give members of their own family . This also extends to the office staff who always have a smile and a mention to one member of staff who always has time to let us know what’s going on in the ward . Although it’s upsettIng not being able to look after your loved ones yourself ,it helps to know they have the best possible care and attention ever.
