About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as a service user),

My husband had an appointment  and I booked a two man ambulance to take us to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.  I received a phone call from a man stating the ambulance had been cancelled due to lack of resources. This was in fact the second time this has happened the problem the first time was a staffing problem and we were advised 2 hours before our appointment which meant we had to cancel .

My husband has multiple sclerosis and is at present attending ENT and is not keeping well so you can understand how vexed I was .

I am extremely disappointed to say the least .

Dear Meryn,

I am very sorry to hear that this has happened. It must have been very frustrating and concerning to you and your husband for this to happen, especially as it is not the first time.

It isn't unheard of but it is unusual for us to have to cancel transport arrangements as there may be occasions where something happens, such as the staffing problem that was mentioned to you, but we do look at all options before cancelling an ambulance and also talk to the clinic concerned.

I'd like to look in to this for you to make sure that I fully understand what happened and to then speak to you to see what we can do to support you and your husband. Please could I ask you to call me on 0141 810 6101?

Thank you,

Pat
