"Locala telephones"

About: Locala Community Partnerships CIC

(as a service user),

I received an appointment letter which I did not fully understand as I live in Kirk Burton and the appointment was for Scunthorpe.  I tried calling the 0300 number on the letter - it cost me £20.00 to keep ringing till I got through and then telling the young lady that I live in Kirk Burton and go to the Kirk Burton Health centre. Could they not make an appoint for me there?

Also the letter effectively said i would need to start with a new referral if I did not get in touch with them within three weeks of the date on the letter - what date on the letter? I scoured the letter for a date and could not see one - nor could anyone I showed the letter to.

I have a corn on my sole and osteoporosis in me back, travelling is therefore challenging - can they not take that into account when making rigid rules like 'all new patients are dealt with at Scunthorpe'?

Columbacn85,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your posting. Firstly can I apologise that you found it difficult to get through to discuss your appointment. Without any further information it is hard to provide an answer, but I can let you know that community health clinics are not run in every GP Practice. It may be that Skelmanthorpe was the closest clinic to your home that offered the service you needed. It may also be that this was not a Locala clinic, as I am not aware of any service that sees new patients only at Skelmanthorpe. I would very much like to look into your concerns further and I would therefore be grateful if you could contact the Customer Liaison Team on 0303 003 4529 (option 1) and provide more details.

In the meantime I can let you know that we have reviewed a random sample of patient letters (for the services that use both Kirkburton and Skelmanthorpe health centres) and all the sample letters had dates on them. Again if you could contact us we could look into this further.

Thank you again for posting your feedback and I very much hope you are able to contact the team to discuss this further.
