What I liked

The facilities are clean and modern, doctors and nurses are knowledgeable and understanding. The opportunity to see a consultant physician whose knowledge goes beyond 'conventional' medicine to accupuncture, homeopathy and other therapies, is an important asset to the NHS.

What could be improved

Booking appointments can sometimes be problematic, otherwise nothing.

I was referred to this hospital at my request after suffering from meningitis. The treatment offered enabled me to resume a normal life free from any recurrent disability. Previous to this, the only expert opinion was fairly unhelpful and dismissive.

A secondary issue was a fairly severe allergy to pollen and spores which really made life a misery. The doctors at the hospital put me onto a treatment known as EPD which involves injections 3 or 4 times a year. Despite my scepticism I am now virtually symptom free and like many other patients rely on these injections to get through. If this treatment was not available on the NHS, my only other option would be to resort to endless visits to my GP who can only prescribe anti histamines, which on their own are not effective.

This hospital provides effective treatment to patients across the UK. It would appear that the vast majority of us are satisfied with our treatment, otherwise why would we bother to come back? Please think very carefully when considering its future role within the NHS, as very often there are no suitable options provided by 'mainstream' medicine.
