"Rude and unhelpful member of reception staff"

About: Grange Medicare - Middleton Park

I am new to the area and have no choice but register at this surgery. I personally picked up a registration form and was advised that I would need my NHS number and a form

Of ID. I completed my form and questionnaire and returned this, in person, with my NHS number and my drivers license as a form of ID that has my current address on as well as my marriage certificate to prove my change of name.

When I arrived I was polite in informing the staff member on reception that I was there to hand in my registration form and to provide the documentation that I had been required to give, only to first be huffed at; making me feel like I was being an inconvenience, and then to be denied to give in my forms due to not having a utility bill which I had not been told was required to complete registration. I reminded the receptionist that my drivers license held my current address but they refused to accept it as ID saying they needed something that had been sent to me in the post at this address.

Accepting this albeit inconvenient, I asked if I could leave the completed registration form and questionnaire with them yet they refused and said to bring 'everything together'. I queried whether this would be detrimental to my midwife appointment the following week and they very bluntly said "well, can you not come up before then?" which I found incredibly rude suggesting I make yet another out-of-my-way journey to provide documents that I had not been informed to provide in the first place. I left feeling disgruntled, taking my documents with me having unsuccessfully made an out-of-my-way journey to register at what has given me an impression of a very disorganised and unprofessional medical surgery. I certainly agree with other people who have left comments/reviews here saying receptionist staff need to be trained on customer facing roles and level of manners. It is unfortunate to risk tarring all reception faculty with this review and can only hope it was due to the staff member having a stressful day, but none the less, remaining professional and helpful especially to new patients is important under any circumstances. I must say I'm not looking forward to dealing with this surgery in the future.
