"The Day Surgery Unit is clean, ordered..."

About: The Whittington Hospital

What I liked

The Day Surgery Unit is clean, ordered and well staffed. I had a gynae procedure here and I felt that the care I received on the day itself was excellent.

What could be improved

The hospital processes are very weak. Out of 7 outpatient follow ups I have only seen the consultant twice. Each time I have to re-explain my case and get slightly different advice from a range of doctors who are clearly still in training. This seems very wasteful and is certainly inconvenient for patients who are working. It would be really good if the hospital could offer a one stop shop and telephone appointments with the consultant rather than endless visits for inconslusive consultations.

Thank you for your comments and feedback. These help us review our services to best help our patients.

It is inevitable that some patients are seen by training grade doctors, who are mainly SpRs - that is people who have been qualified as doctors for at least three to four years and often much longer – to help us meet demand and to train future consultants.

Consultants supervise trainees in clinic and most have systems in place for trainees to discuss the patients they see with consultants either before during or after the clinic concerned. If we could know which specialty we could try to look into this in more depth and your feedback has been included in our patient safety newsletter, sent to consultants this month.

If you would like to let us know the speciality you are referring to, please email us at communications@whittington.nhs.uk.

Thank you again for your comments and feedback.
