"Whilst on holiday on the Isle of Wight,..."

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

What I liked

Whilst on holiday on the Isle of Wight, I got something in my eye (Sunday the 12th of September), and most painful it was too! My hotelier recommended that I go to hospital to get it professionally looked at, which I did. I was seen on Monday the 13th and had an extensive eye scan/search but luckily nothing was found but there was scarring on my eye.

I was given an antibiotic cream and the eye improved almost immediately. I went back on the following Tuesday since my eye was hurting. Again it was scanned and then I received an 'eye bath' which certainly helped. I had to attend the Eye Clinic the following morning where I received a 'contact lens' to protect my eye whilst blinking, as well as being given a stronger eye cream. I was back at St. Mary's on Friday morning where I was pleased to be discharged and was told by the Consultant that the healing was almost complete - but carry on with the drops - which I am still using until Thursday evening. I cannot thank the staff at St. Mary's enough for the treatment that I received at the hospital - absolutely first class. Whilst the eye problem did cost me about 2 days of my holiday, there is nothing wrong with my eye and although it may be the 'in thing' to knock the National Health Service, here's one patient who was delighted with the service that I received at the hopsital. Well done all the staff at st. Mary's who helped to get me 'going again'.

Yours most gratefully, Terry J Moore.

What could be improved

Perhaps a little more contact between the patient and the doctor once a treatment room has been designated to the patient - I mention this because on my visit last Tuesday, I was waiting around for 2 hours once I had been put into a treatment room.

Anything else?

Yes, the overall standard of my treatment was excellent.

We would like to assure you that your comments have been passed to the staff of the departments concerned including the issue regarding the long wait once you had been allocated to a treatment room.
