I have a number of long term conditions.
They are not traditional LTCs.
I don't have heart disease or COPD, I have poor mental health and other long term physical problems.
This practice is hopeless at supporting me with my conditions.
They are reactive and offer me no support to manage my condition.
Sometimes it feels like they are actively working against me.
I am not encouraged to have regular reviews and when I have to make an urgent appointment it is very difficult.
I don't apply for the sit and wait because my condition is pre-existing.
Making a same day appointment on the phone is very difficult.
I find the easiest way to make an appointment on the day is to arrive at the practice early and wait.
This often doesn't work.
this morning I arrived at 8am. When the desk opened at 8:15 people were not seen in order and by the time I was seen the earliest appointment was 11:30am.
This is no good for me because I work.
I have some suggestions although it doesn't look as though you every reply to people who take the time to post on here.
- when people arrive in the morning have a sign on the desk which says 'reception opens at 8:15am.
please take a ticket and you will be seen in the order you arrived'.
Leave a raffle ticked book on reception.
- consider how you can prioritise people who work 9-5
- remember that not everyone has a car!
- be more proactive with people who attend frequently for appointments.
If you take a more proactive approach you may find that they attend less frequently as an emergancy because they are managing their condition better.
- help people to sign up for online booking and prescription ordering.
I hope you take the time to read and consider this post.
