"My mum's excellent care"

About: Borders General Hospital / Department of Medicine for Elderly Borders General Hospital / Respiratory Medicine

(as a relative),

Mum was admitted with pneumonia and sepsis. At 90 years of age this was a very worrying time and the outlook looked very bleak.

However mum received excellent care In ward 6 and was transferred to DME Ward. The staff from the cleaners to the Doctors were lovely. The support the family received was outstanding, and best of all mum pulled through and is now at home.

Dear Chissy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us of your mum's experience in the Borders General Hospital.

As Dr Bennison has mentioned, there is a great deal of work taking place within the BGH currently to try to smooth the process for patients, particularly those who are older and frailer. This involves a multitude of specialists but most importantly, brings the expertise to the patient as quickly as is possible. Of course, any hospital team does not just consist of the patient facing staff and so I am so glad that you mentioned our domestic staff who are so often the unsung heros. Many a patient has told me of how cheerful and friendly our domestic staff are and how they can really brighten a long day by stopping to have a chat or bring an impromptu cup of tea!

Like Dr Bennison, I will forward your mum's story to the staff in MAU/Ward 6 as I know the impact that positive feedback can have on staff morale! Thank you once again and please pass on our very best wishes to your mum for a full recovery!

Best wishes,

Lynn
