"Excellent patient care by practice nurse"

About: Yeadon Tarn Medical Practice

On Friday 11/12/15 I visited Yeadon Tarn Medical Practice following an operation the previous day. The operation had left me with an open wound that needed to be repacked and redressed by a nurse; on the day in question the original dressing put on by the surgeon, post op, had moved and the wound was oozing and bleeding so it was quite a priority that it was seen to. The care plan in place was supposed to be that the district nurse team would come out and see to the wound but after a large amount of confusion I heard nothing from them and was told to visit my practice nurse. When I arrived at YTMP a lovely receptionist informed me that the nurse was fully booked but they would have a chat with the nurse to see what they could do. Whilst we waited for the nurse to finish with their patient, the receptionist rang the district nurse team and eventually managed to get them to 'guarantee' that someone would come out to see me that day. As a back up plan the receptionist also spoke to the nurse, who agreed to see me at the end of their surgery, should no one have come from the district team. Low and behold no one did come so I went back up to YTMP where the nurse professionally changed my packing and my dressing, despite the fact it was cutting in to the nurses own time.

As it turns out, no district nurse came out to treat me till 11:30pm on 12/12/15 so if the nurse hadn't been so great in agreeing to see me, despite the fact the nurse was doing so in their own time, after a fully booked and hectic morning surgery, I wouldn't have had my wound dealt with until more than 48 hours after my initial operation.

I can't thank receptionist and the nurse enough for their patient care and the way they dealt with the situation.

Thank you for this very positive comment. We are committed to ensuring that our patients needs are dealt with in a timely manner and this comment reflects this. It is also good of you to recognise the extra steps the nurse took in your care.

Thankyou
