"I was admitted to ward 36 Orthopeadics..."

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

What I liked

I was admitted to ward 36 Orthopeadics and from the time that I stepped into the hospital to the time I left I was treated with utmost care, respect and diginty.

I was very nervous as the surgery I had had elsewhere happened nearly a year to the day and vowed afterwards I would never step into any operating theatre ever again as it wasn't a very nice experience and left me traumatised for months.

Thankfully when I explained this to the staff I met they were very sympathetic and did everything they could to make me feel at ease and I was taken into theatre quickly without me having the chance to even think about it or be upset. I woke up after the surgery and it was like night and day compared to what I had experienced in the past.

My experience at the RLI not only has helped my medical problems but my faith and trust in the medical establishment as a whole and I know for sure that I won't be waking up with nightmares like I did after the last surgery I had.

The staff on ward 36 looked after me with great care and nothing was a problem to them and they kept me in good spirits as did the rest of the patients on my ward who were a really good laugh! Big thank you to you all !

What could be improved

This is probably quite minor but I think that patients water jugs should be checked on more. I suffered with dehydration and had to have a fluid drip because I'd not drunk enough water.

Thank you for your kind comments. The team that looked after you will be pleased to read your message. We have passed your comments onto them.

In respect of what could be improved, we are sorry that you felt that the water jugs were not checked more regularly. We will pass this comment onto our Head of Patient Experience to look into.

We place great value in the fact that local people continue to choose our hospitals and we openly encourage patients and visitors to give us their feedback. This will enable us to continually improve the services we offer and the experience our patients have whilst in our hospitals.
