"Requesting hearing aid batteries"

About: Gilbert Bain Hospital / Audiology

(as a service user),

left numerous messages requesting batteries be posted out (this service is an acceptable form of obtaining batteries and is written on website as such). No response to requests and no batteries have arrived after almost 2 weeks. No information given as to whether the request is being dealt with or not.

I prefer to have batteries mailed out as I dislike the lack of confidentiality of having to deal with a receptionist. I feel frustrated at not knowing what is happening and anxious about running out of batteries, if there was an option to visit the department to pick them up I would use that.

I am grateful for the service provided by the department appointments are always prompt and extremely professional.

I am sorry you have experienced a poor service with regards to battery supply. At present the Audiology service is short staffed and it has been difficult to keep up with demands on the service, especially unscheduled care.

NHS hearing aid batteries are supplied at all the Shetland health centres (in usual opening hours) and at the Gilbert Bain Hospital reception (which can be accessed 24 hours a day seven days a week). I can assure you that all staff are trained with regards to confidentiality and you should be able to access hearing aid batteries by handing over your yellow hearing aid record book.

I hope you will be able to access batteries soon.

Jackie Haywood

Audiologist
