"Phone calls from my GP surgury reception"

About: North Yorkshire and Humber

(as the patient),

Recently my wife has been to hospital; out patients to see a specialist. they diagnosed and sent a letter to her ( and mine) GP surgery, Tadcater medical centre. Shortly after that a person rang our house and asked to speak to my wife. She wasn't in and I asked who was it and can I take a message. The caller said they  wouldn't leave a message and could not say who was then hung up.

I mentioned it to my wife who suspected it was the surgery. She tried to ring them but could not get through . it was either engaged or just rang to the answer phone. Since this initial call there have been two more all with subsequent texts to my wife's phone from the admin at the surgery. Every time the caller has refused to identify themselves and at the last call cited the data protection act.

I rang the surgery and asked to speak to the practice manager. They rang back three days later. I explained what had happened and said I suspected it was their staff trying to get through.

They were very abrupt and, again, the DPA was cited. I said surely they can identify themselves and allow me to arrange a time to get my wife on the phone. The answer was no. This was very frustrating. I pointed out that these were nuisance phone calls and if I continue to get them (unidentified callers can be worrying to us old folk) I would report them to the police.

The reply I got was threatening in that they said If I did that they would have to speak to the partners about me  and I took form that they would de register me from the practice. They said I had been aggressive but it was just because I would not take the fob off i feel like they were presenting.

I am sure the DPA does not prevent the caller from Identifying themselves and they are just being pedant over the whole thing.

Can anyone clarify this please?
