"Mobile Phones"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Hurst

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

Northfield ward currently allows patients to have mobile phones on the ward.   Hurst Ward remain the same level of security as Northfield but at present does not allow mobile phones on the ward.

Please can you let me know when Hurst will be allowed to have mobile phones or give a valid reason why this cannot happen.

Thank you for your question. We have chosen Northfield to pilot the use of mobile phones on the Birmingham site, as it was suggested as part of their collaborative ward review. The idea of piloting the use of phones on the ward is to ensure that we get all aspects of the approach right before rolling it out across the low secure wards on site. I now it is frustrating if you are not able to have a phone at the moment, but the plan is to introduce this on all the low secure wards within the near future.

When I have more information about a date, and feedback about the pilot project, it will ensure that this is communicated on the wards.

I am pleased to stay that following the successful pilot, patients now have access to mobile phones on all of our wards. This is really helping them to stay in touch with family and friends.
