"Admission through Aand E in Sept 2017"

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was admitted via A and E on 26 th Sept to Ward 1. Although I had a long wait for a bed I received good care. Tests were done and X-ray and I was kept informed of what was happening to me. The triage was good and I did not have long to wait before I was initially seen. The A and E doctor called a general chest physician to see me who explained about admitting me for IV antibiotics. I consider I received excellent care.

Perhaps it would help for patients who have a long wait for a bed could have an easy chair. I am 75 and thin and sitting on an ordinary hard chair was uncomfortable and tiring for 6 hours. I was not a trolleycase either. You all do your best to cope when a bed is needed and not available. It is good that eventually you found one.

My wife commented on the lovely restaurant, clealiness of it, orderliness and choice of food. Also on the shopping stall available on the corridor near the entrance selling cards bags etc where she did some shopping.

We have no complaints whatever about any care we have received at Macclesfield, except that I had to take my own feeding pump for my tube feeding in to the ward. This was not thought about in discharging me and sat on the ward drip stand unnoticed, so I had to go back to the ward next day to collect it., and I missed my night feed.

My wife popped up to the ward and I could not park in the first car park. Assuming I could just wait a few minutes in my car for her I waited just down from the car park and have now been issued with a fine by Parking-eye of £40. I do not know how to appeal about this, all for an item of equipment I had to take in with me and missed my feed at home, then on collecting it got fined £40.

Hi Alan - firstly we are glad you were so pleased with the standard of care provided. We were sorry to read about your issue relating to parking - the parking management system in place at Macclesfield Hospital does require all time on site to be paid for, even when remaining with your vehicle.

However, there is a thorough appeals process in place to waive Parking Charge Notices (PCNs) in appropriate circumstances, such as medical emergencies, so we would urge you to appeal straight away via the details on the notice you received.

It is also important to note that payment for parking at Macclesfield Hospital can be made any time until midnight on the day of a visit and can be done by cash, card or by phone.
