"DVT three and half hours waiting."

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency

Called 111 at 7pm regarding pain in calf they made me an appointment to see the out of hours doctor for 10:15pm (I have had DVT before). The doctor suspected a

DVT told me it was life treating and sent me to A&E with a letter to have blood test which is in the same building. I was taken in to cubicle

where a nurse took my blood under pressure from doctor telling them they shouldn't be taking blood in a cubicle and could they hurry up

as i need this room!'

I was then told to wait for the blood sample results to see what treatment needed to be given but after 3 hours i was still waiting. Even more annoying was the sound of laughter coming from one of the cubicles which were all now without patients so one could only assume it was the staff having a break. I know breaks are needed but surely they could be staggered to accommodate the large number of people needing to be seen.

.

i was feeling very unwell by this time and decided to go home but thought i had best inform reception of this, however after standing waiting and being ignored by the receptionists I left

at 1.45am..

Next morning I rang the hospital at 6.00am to see if they had my blood sample result but was told the only way I could get the result was to return to the A&E department and queue again!

I did return and was at the hospital for another 3 hours and eventually got the result and started treatment. In total 7 hours!

I din't think this is acceptable for a 'life threatening ' condition.

Dear Tony, thank you for letting us know about this. I assure you we take all feedback seriously and would really like to talk to you in more detail about this, so we can address the issues appropriately. What you describe is certainly not acceptable.

As you say this is a serious condition and we do not want people to feel they have to leave before they can be treated, or leave when feeling unwell. I do apologise for the anxiety and frustration this caused you.

Could you please get in touch with my by email at patient.experience@bthft.nhs.uk or call me on 01274 383863 (Mon-Fri). If you call and I am not at my desk, please do leave me your name and number and I will call you back as soon as I get your message.

I hope to hear from you soon.
