"Made me feel really uncomfortable"

About: Borders General Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

On attending x-ray, the person on reception carried on looking at their pc screen and stuck their hand out; didn't bother to look at me nor engage in any way. Assumed they wanted my appointment letter so handed over. They glanced at it and said "seat over there" whilst still staring at the pc.

The x-ray team were great when I was having the x-ray made me feel comfortable.

After, went back to seating area and someone flew out of the x-ray area shouted my name and said "nothing wrong" and disappeared again! They didn't bother to come and speak to me or give me a chance to ask any questions and made me feel really uncomfortable about the way they shouted my diagnosis to every stranger present.

So I went home feeling totally chastised and like I had wasted their time. So much for patient centered care and the thing is the area x-rayed still hurts months later but am too scared to ask for another referral and worry I may end up with pain in the area for rest of my life, so really thanks a lot.

Dear Patient

I am so sorry that your visit with us was so negative. It would be beneficial for me to discuss this experience with you. Your post gives me the impression that your visit was some time ago. We have made changes in the last month on how results are communicated to patients.

It would be good to know if your experience was before or after our change in practice.

I have made all reception staff aware of your post and it will be discussed at a staff meeting this week.
