"Day surgery"

About: Tameside General Hospital / General surgery

Came for key hole surgery to have my gall bladder removed. I was in at 7.30 and lucky enough to be first on the list. My consultant was amazing, explained everything to me clearly and put me at ease. Couldn't have asked for a better doctor.

Cleanliness was adequate, the curtain had blood stains on it and there were drops of blood on the floor that wasn't cleaned for a few hours. I went to the toilet prior to surgery and there was a wee sample left in there by a nurse doing a pregnancy test, I pointed it out to be removed and that it wasn't hygienic.

I had to ask to go to the toilet 4 times and I nearly had an accident. I was unable to get up myself as I was hooked up to various amounts of equipment. I eventually went after an hour but this wasn't the nurses fault, they were so busy and I can only recall seeing 2 at the time, so this isn't a complaint against them as such rather than the resource available

The nurses were amazing and so lovely. Infact all the staff were friendly and really looked after me as much as they could. The receptionist as you booked in could do with some customer care training though. I said hello and got a grunt. Booked me in without even giving me eye contact or a smile. Some people are nervous coming in and the first contact should be a friendly one.
