"Kettering General Hospital provided 5*+..."

About: Kettering General Hospital / Cardiology

This is a note that I sent to my friends and family shortly after being admitted.

I had never spent a night in hospital before in my entire life (66 years).

I was extremely pleased with the care I received from every single individual no Exceptions.

Thank you KGH and EMAS.

On Thursday October 5th I suffered a rather severe 'episode' of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) causing my pulse rate to rise to 242 beats per minute and me to pass out ( a first in my life time).

Thankfully I was wearing a hospital provided heart monitor for a 24 hour test at the time so they have a perfect record of all the activity leading up to and during my collapse (when I passed out I fell in the bath so not too hard a landing but a shock when I woke up wondering where I was).

I then had a ride in an ambulance (another life-time first) to KGH where I have spent the night in a hospital bed (another life-time first) in CCU.

I had an angiogram late last night and the good news for me is all my coronary arteries are normal ??.

They therefore believe that my problem is most likely to be electrical and correctable.

Having now had an Echo and determined that the mechanical functions are working normally and all the muscle tissue is in A1 order ?? I may now have to go to The Glenfield Hospital ( in Leicester) for tests and a procedure that they can't perform here.

The senior consultant cardiologist believes that my problem is without doubt in the electrical system and that I need an 'in the body' and 'on the heart' ECG (via the femoral artery) to accurately find the area at fault and correct it with a keyhole procedure that will neutralise the element that is causing the (SVT)

Currently heart rate and blood pressure back to normal and feeling a whole lot better than yesterday afternoon.

I can't praise the teams at here at KTH highly enough.

Their customer care ranks with the highest I have experienced anywhere in my entire life. The whole culture of caring for their 'customers' has been evident throughout and by now I have had personal contact with more than 40 medical staff and they all sing off the same cheerful, positive and caring hymn sheet.

The Ambulance crew, A and E, Resus, Ambulatory care, Xray and CCU ( I am doing the Grand Tour!!). The training here must be first class.

One of the Ambulance Crew even came to check up on my progress late last night and again inquired today!!
