Reading the letter from patients family 9 months ago this practice of leaving medication on table for patients to take is still going on. Like that patient, my mother has dementia and requires me to give her medication at home.
On my morning visits to the ward I would find medication on the floor or still in the small cup not taken. I also asked for certain medication if this could be given in liquid form and only when I was there to prompt the nurse this happened.
I did request to both Senior Nurse and Ward Doctor that a positive note be put on mums notes for the other nurses to follow such a simple thing. I did notice that this was a common failing with the elderly patients with dementia.
