I had gallbladder surgery 3 days ago. I was asked to arrive at 11 am and was surprised to find out after sitting there until 1pm that my surgery wasn't going to be until 3pm ish,(this is actually my only gripe about the whole day, I could of gone in at 1pm which also meant i could of had breakfast as I had to have it before 6am as due in at 11).
The nurse assigned to me was lovely and really put me at ease with a few hugs as I was anxious due to never having surgery before, they were so friendly and caring and ensured I was well looked after throughout my short stay, the room I was in before and after was very clean, bright, warm and comfortable.
Both surgeons and the anaesthetist popped into my room at the start to discuss the procedure and potential problems that could possibly occur (which I'm glad to say they didnt) I finally went down to theatre at 3 and was back in the room at 4.30.
After the operation the surgeon visited me again to let me know all had run smoothly but they had seen a small stone on the scan which they did while i was having my gallbladder removed, they said they think the stone may find its own way out but they would arrange an MRCP for me just in case i need another small procedure to remove it and the appointment for the MRCP arrived yesterday 2 days after my op! Hows that for service!
I didn't feel rushed or any pressure to leave even though i was the last patient there, my nurse made me cups of tea and made sure I felt well enough to go before I did and I was walking out of the ward at 7.15.
All in all I had a very positive experience and was given excellent care which was all down to the team who looked after me so my sincere thanks go out to you all on Gate 20,level 2.
