After falling in the garden I decided that my wrist might need checking. Reported to the reception desk approx 7.20pm and returned home by 10.00pm after having my wrist x-rayed and then plastered. (I am aware that the waiting time could be very different at week-ends). All staff were courteous and professional especially the radiologist and the plaster nurse. They both explained every step of the procedure and were very re-assuring. Follow up appointment for the fracture clinic was given.
It would have been useful to know how severe the break was but perhaps the swelling masked that. I was shown the x-rays but was so surprised by the verdict of a broken wrist that I didn't ask. Also some detailed written advice on how to care for a broken limb would be helpful too as presumably the severity of a break impacts on what should/should not be done.
"No housework for 4-6 weeks" is a very general comment; one has to get dressed, make a drink etc. Keeping the plaster cast dry was emphasised which was useful.
The route to A&E is fraught with difficulties at the present due to building work. Better signage and improved lighting would be useful to avoid more accidents happening whilst on site.
"Speedy visit to A&E after breaking wrist"
