"Urgent Care"

About: Royal Preston Hospital

Renaming the Primary Care unit as Urgent Care is just a poor excuse for keeping the A&E numbers down. Visited A&E with my daughter on 11th Oct was seen by a nurse who did the usual checks and was sent to 'Urgent Care' (To be honest if I had thought a GP appointment would have sufficed I would have waited and taken her to her own surgery). The waiting room was extremely busy and having waited in excess of 1hr, with my daughter mainly curled up on the floor. I enquired about a water cooler to get her some water and was told you have to buy it from the vending machines, I then asked how many people were to be seen before her and was told 6 - at which point my daughter was so stressed and anxious I decided to take her home. I hope the GP does not suggest she needs to go to hospital because there is no way she will go.

We are sorry to hear that you feel you did not receive the correct advice when your daughter was assessed and triaged for Urgent Care.

This department can be very busy at certain times with waits in excess of 1hr as you experienced.

If you would like to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Serice (PALS) on 01772 522972 they will be happy to obtain more detailed feedback for you.
