"Day Surgery"

About: Princess Anne Hospital / Gynaecology

I have recently returned from an op in the day surgery unit and I have to say I was incredibly impressed. I was very very scared having never been to hospital before and was anxious about everything from the general anaesthetic to things going wrong.

The nurses on the ward were lovely, they were very good at making me feel at ease and trying to reassure me. One even gave me a hug when I felt like crying. The anaesatists were also very friendly and I almost forgot what they were doing when I was waiting to go into theatre!

Your staff are a credit to your hospital and today really highlighted to me how much care and passion they have for their jobs.

One thing I would say is not being able to have my husband with me significantly increased my anxiety. Luckily I could go out and wait with him in the relatives room but it would have been nice to have him with me in the ward. I do however understand why he wasn’t allowed in.

Thank you for telling us about your experience of being in hospital.

Your comments have been shared with matron to share with the wider team who looked after you.

It is always pleasing when patients tell us what worked for them so we can review to shape care going forwards.
