About: Tameside General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

The surgeons and anaesthetic theatre staff and physiotherapists were great.

The care on the planed orthopaedic unit was not very good. Some staff were great but this was let down by a few individuals, I was made to hop a fair distance to the toilet when feeling dizzy, I was left on my own in the toilet unable to weight bear, my crutches far out of reach, buzzer out of reach I shouted and shouted for help but was ignored I thought I was going to faint. I could not get the toilet paper to wipe myself so I struggled back to my bed without any assistance, I was left in tears very undignified as not able to clean self after toileting and left in severe pain. I witnessed old ladies buzzing to go to toilet and left for 2 hours then they were shouted at, patients had to wait over an hour for pain relief when in severe pain, as a nurse myself this experience has totally shocked me, very degrading and totally undignified I don't know how people like that are allowed to work on the wards, I will be placing an official complaint with Pals about my experience and what I witnessed with other patients there is no excuse for it, when people are recovering from surgery they need care and attention, not to be ignored and shouted at it's just appalling. It really upset me to see how one old lady was being treated. I will be raising my concerns, one nurse nearly gave me a massive overdose of codeine gave 2 codeine tablets then two cocodamols instead of paracetamol so I could have been overdosed on codeine, I was also given someone else's medication and not my own, good job I am a nurse and knew what tablets I was taking. Some staff were better than others just been spoilt by the few who had no care at all. I was so glad to get back home, you are just a bed number to the staff not an individual with feelings.
