"Urology department - worse experience ever...."

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Urology

Went into A&E with excruciating pain in back. Turns out I had a 5mm kidney stone. The Urology consultant said I needed an operation to insert a stent which would be removed within a couple of weeks under local anaesthetic, a quick fix. It turns out my following operation will be done under general anaesthetic, not local so I was mis-informed and I've been waiting 5 1/2 weeks with the earliest operation date in another 5 weeks time. And I'm supposed to be an urgent case. I couldn't imagine how long non urgent cases need to wait. Expect to wait up to 3 months or even longer with constant pain and continuous passing of blood. I also get rashes each day so need more medicine on top of the painkillers and antibiotics to keep that under control. The stent in my opinion is more troublesome than the stone itself. I feel coerced into agreeing to this operation. Don't expect to get an answer from the urology admissions team either if you want to find out the status of your operation date. They simply don't answer the phone. I tried over 5 days and just got the answer machine. I had to see my local GP to see if they could get some answers but they also experience the same problem. God forbid you have a kidney stone and have to go to PRUH, it's a miserable existence compounded by the severe incompetence of the Urology department and their serious communication problems.
