I've been attending clinic B for 8 years now as I have a prolapse. It has got worse over time. I have tried pelvic floor exercises which I found very hard to do as I did not get great results. I was fitted with a ring pessary a few years ago which has made me feel normal again. The pessary's have been replaced yearly as I've needed to have bigger ones fitted. I am beginning to get very low and depressed as I feel the pessary is not helping any more which is causing me to feel this way.
I went back to my GP earlier this year and asked to be referred back to clinic B as I think surgery is now needed. I waited 4 months for an appointment and eventually saw a gynaecologist. Well I should have stayed at home. I sat and listened to them telling me that they had researched woman's prolapse and that there was some positive outcomes for some patients due to a change in their lifestyles. They then examined me and told me that my prolapse isn't that bad being a stage 2a and that I should not wear a ring pessary any more and I should do pelvic floor exercises and I should see results.
If in up to two years and the exercises have not helped then I can be referred back to see them. I lead a very active outdoor life I cycle, ride and have grand children that I like to spend time with. I work as a swimming coach teaching 100 ASN adults to swim so I'm on my feet all day. My lifestyle probably as a lot to do with my condition. This is one reason I wear a pessary. So looks like I am going to have to change my lifestyle and take up knitting if I'm going to see any improvement. I don't know how long I'll be able to continue working with this as it is driving me crazy feeling this bulge all the time. It is clear the doctor has not experienced a prolapse if they had then they might have been more sympathetic and listened to what I was trying to tell them. I feel let down.
