As a lay member of the public with several family members with medical backgrounds:
1)Staff could be paid in literal holiday time for time taken to treat patients after shift for professional reasons i.e. 10 minutes over shift could build up to a day off:)
2) First birth experience satisfactory - one midwife was very competent - one.
3) First paediatric ultrasound was fine but a clear distinction between the adult and paediatric clinic for staff would have been helpful for our second baby.
4) Mental health training for all staff including reception staff might be useful.....
5) Fifth experience was absolutely horrendous but we just about walked out alive if not battered and bruised beyond belief in all respects. Not sure which policies were in place....Still getting over it.........
5) Difficult space wise but it would help if mums, dads and siblings could all be kept together. Dad and infant went for the treatment while mum and older child waited outside. Gut wrenching having to leave your partner and especially your infant.
6) Checking ID, forms with the patient/client and equipment is very important. Also important to ask the patient/client if "medical" "students" etc. are welcome to watch. Never again.
7) A reminder of the Hippocratic oath is absolutely essential these days as is the creativity of an Entrepreneur and a Doctor that trained when there was no technology out in the African sticks, frankly.
8) A wise psychiatrist once said that a bit of love and care can be the best medicine ever as is the time to heal for as long as you need to.
"Plenty of room for improvement...................."
