"Pain Management Service a Shambles!"

About: Southmead Hospital / Pain Management

After waiting for months I decided to give up work to undertake the 12 week programme with the Pain Management Programme.

It is one of the worst experiences I have had to date in the NHS and I have had six lower limb operations on both my legs after surviving a terrible hit and run accident. The group environment was rubbish with a "one size fits all" policy and anyone unable to ask any 'real' questions without getting a textbook answer back.

This has been the biggest waste of my life and I now have a gap on CV I am unable to fully account for. I regret ever continuing with this ridiculous programme which gave me little or no benefit at all. I personally blame my Consultant who thought it might be possible for me to seek Pain Counselling on a 1:1 basis as I was really struggling only to be rejected and told my "low mood" made it impossible for me to implement their techniques.

Their techniques are ridiculous and impractical. I would not recommend this or the Pain Management Department further to that they have little or no people skills and really should not be medical professionals as they have no bedside manner! Further their admin line is literally unreachable and administrative procedures completely disorganised with patients being told the day before they have to come to an appointment the next day. Completely furious and frustrated to the max with this department!

They have taken a chunk out of my life which I will never get back!

What a sheer waste of my time!!!

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for your feedback, I am very sorry to hear that you have had such a poor experience when you attended the 12 week Pain Management Programme, which has now been shared with the team.

It would be helpful if you would contact us with your details, so that we can look into your specific experience, and to discuss where you believe improvements could be put in place to ensure that patients have a more helpful and positive experience.

If you would like to speak to me, I can be contacted on 0117 414 4567, or if you would prefer you can email us Complaints@nbt.nhs.uk

Thank you again for your comments.

Yours sincerely, Sue Needs, Deputy Advice & Complaints Team Manager.
