"My elderly father was taken into Ward 10..."

About: Kent & Sussex Hospital

What I liked

My elderly father was taken into Ward 10 early September and the explanation the family was given of his condition and care was just excellent. They treated our concerns with extreme courtesy and gentle understanding. This meant an awful lot at a difficult time. Really appreciate care from all the staff.

What could be improved

There was some confusion among staff as to whether family visiting was unrestricted due to the poor health of our father or restricted to stated visiting hours. Even after explaining that we had previously been told we could visit at any time, we were unceremoniously booted off the ward. Then while I was frantically emailing and texting other family members, who were on there way to the hospital, the same member of staff came out to apologise (and I then had to recontact those same family members). I am afraid that I was very angry with that member of staff, for which I apologies. But in the circumstances I do think she should have listened to what we were telling their and checked their facts before causing us embarrassment and distress.

Anything else?

Staff in A&E Friday 3rd Sept early morning (2am) were wonderful, also the care given at Acute Assement ward same morning was forthright and friendly. Even the cleaner took care to make sure they were not intruding too much into family grief.
