My mum is 89 and has been in for over a month, although she was discharged during this period and re-admitted by ambulance the next day. She still has not been formally diagnosed with anything other than vascular dementia. The last month has been an awful experience fro my mum, my sister and me.
No one takes an holistic view of patient care and the clinical and social care teams do not work together. My mum has been left to the wisdom and opinion of whoever seems to be in charge on a day to day basis. My sister and me are often made to feel we are a nuisance and do not need to be involved in decisions that they make about our mum.
After a very protracted process mum has been allocated a placed in a care home because they have finally agreed it would not be in mums best interests to send her home alone as she no longer has the mental capacity to safely live on her own.
At the weekend mum had fall and hit her head (whilst in the hospital) and although it was decided there was no lasting damage done at the time a new doctor has decided today that she cannot go to her care home for a planned day visit as they thinkmmm
