"I attended A & E and found it to be..."

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

What I liked

I attended A & E and found it to be clean. I was seen within minutes of arrival.

What could be improved

Just talk to patients and keep them informed of what is happening. Endless waiting around in this waiting area and that waiting area does not help either the patient or the patient/staff relationship - it's commonsense, people like to be kept informed.

The sign in the X-ray department constantly showed a waiting time of 60 minutes. Most people, including myself, experienced waiting times far in excess so please be honest and state a true and meaningful approximate waiting time for those who are present there and then.

Anything else?

Shut doors to consulting rooms. I no more want to see patients in a private setting than I want to be seen by others as I am lying on a treatment table.

Countless staff wondering around without any apparent sense of urgency or focus, not acknowledging your presence at a time when you need reassurance is not good.

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHCT website regarding the care afforded to you at North Tyneside General Hospital.

May I apologise on behalf of the Trust about your concerns. I will pass this information on to the staff in charge of the A&E and X-Ray Departments and ask them to remind staff about privacy and dignity, communication with patients and the need for accurate up to date information to be available for patients.
