I was on ward 14 for 5 days in mid-August in order to have a hysterectomy. All the staff involved in my care were excellent. My consultant was informative and caring. My anaesthetist listened to my concerns and was responsive and reassuring. All the nursing staff were attentive, knowledgeable and proactive. I became unwell post operatively and the nurses responded to this immediately; ensuring that I was reviewed and treated without delay. When my pain was not controlled, they got the anaesthetist to review me so that a PCA could be provided. I was assisted to mobilise to the shower, ensuring that my dignity was preserved. When I was very nauseated, the nurses came up with effective plans of medication/snacks in order to try & control it and enable my antibiotics to be taken (& stay down)! They also allowed my partner to stay longer and visit outside of usual times when I was longer in theatre than expected and when I was unwell; even making sure she was fed & watered when there for an extended period. The food wasn't even too bad (once I felt well enough to eat it)!
Having been very nervous about going in to hospital I can honestly say that I had nothing to worry about. I would recommend this hospital and especially the team on ward 14 all day long. Thank you so much for supporting my partner and me through my surgery; you were all amazing.
