"Gynecology hysterectomy"

About: The Great Western Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Hello,

I have been diagnosed with three disabling women's health issues. These are Endometriosis, Polycystic ovary syndrome and Premenstrual Disphoric Disorder.

I have been under my consultant at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon for around two years possibly longer.

It was decided last February after I had a breakdown due to the pmdd that I needed surgery in the form of a total laparoscopic hysterectomy with both ovaries removed.

I have been on the waiting list since February 2017. I am in my 9th month of waiting and still haven't had a pre op assessment or any letters.

On contacting waiting list enquires I am told my consultant is overwhelmed and has a back log of patients. I was told seven women are in front of me. Five routine, two urgent. I also spoke to a friend who's just had surgery who stated she was told her consultant at GWH completes five surgeries a day. However I've been told as of today I won't be booked in for the operation until December at the earliest. Bringing my total wait time to approx 11 months which isn't even including possible winter cancellations.

In the meantime I have had to stay home and go long term sick since September due to time off work for constant pain.

I have been placed into prostap hormone injection which is supposed to be given for up to six months at a time. I have been parked on this medication since July 2016. Taking me to 17 months on the drug by December.

I currently live in extreme pain, am unable to drive for most of the month due to the range of strong pain relief medication I take everyday. I have around 8-10 good days a month from the prostap injection.

I have children one of which has autism. I feel extremely lost and frustrated.

I'm not bringing any money into the household as I'm on sick pay, my mood Is very low due to the pain and I'm struggling to do all my daily activities including looking after my family like all good mothers do.

I'm at a complete loss as to why i have to wait eleven months for a reasonably routine operation. I don't think leaving people in pain for this long is reasonable, it's making me extremely depressed.
