"Broken wrist treatment at Bolton Royal hospital."

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Accident and emergency Royal Bolton Hospital / General surgery Royal Bolton Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I attended A & E at Bolton Royal in September 2017 having broken my wrist a few days previously. I was treated quite quickly and given a standby operation date of 4 days later. This was cancelled due to a cold and I was given a new standby for 8 days after that. This was then cancelled due to 'roll over' from the weekend. I was told to come in on a day later at 9. 00 and was left all day until 19. 00 to be told that the theatre had closed and the surgeon had left without coming to see me. It was left to the poor nurse to tell me.

A different surgeon who had been working in the adjacent theatre came up to apologise for what had happened. The next day the surgeon that went home came to say sorry as they shut the theatre early and they forgot to come and see me. Thankfully another surgeon completed my op, 13 days after my original break. Unfortunately the following day brought more disappointment and frustration as my discharge took eight and a half hours, from when my surgeon said I could go home that day until when it finally happened. This was apparently due to nobody being available to sign off my paperwork. I am dreading my visit to the clinic this week in case a further operation is needed. There seems to be a total lack of communication to the patient and within the department.
