Ive had hydradenitis for years however under my right arm pit there were around 6-8 abcesses that continually burst and refilled i had an appointment with consultant who said i would need surgery as they have tracked and wont heal.
On day of surgery i was to go to inverclyde royal nurses were very nice told me i was last on the list that i was scheduled for 28 minutes went for surgery came round and i asked how long i had been in i was told an hour (longer than expected with no explaination as to why) got back to the ward told nurses my throat was sore they told me this was due to the pipe they put down your throat to help you breathe again i wasnt told this would happen. Girl in bed next to me gets told shes to wear the anti embolism stockings for 6 weeks i ask have i to wear these to which i got told oh yes you do too 6 weeks. If i hadnt of asked would i have been told. On discharge was told i would see consultant in Paisley within 8 weeks. No one had approached me before i left to tell me if surgery went ok or why i was in for double the time.
My arm is in complete agony i had to struggle putting on the stockings as they are tight they hurt my legs roll down and dig in under the knee after 5 weeks of struggling i contacted the consultants secretary to explain they hurting. They sounded confused told me they would speak to consultant and phone me back. They phoned back after speaking with consultant to say i didn't need to wear them anymore. Looked on nhs website and i shouldn't have been given them in first place not if mobility isn't affected (its arm pit that was removed so could still move) and not if surgery is under 90 minutes, upon speaking with a few nurses and healthcare professionals i have been told that they are confused as to why i was to wear them also as they wouldn't have given me them.
I recieve a letter from consultant for my appointment for November my surgery was July so i had to phone up and explain that's not 8 weeks to be told it was a mistake it would be rescheduled. It was rescheduled for 10 weeks. I am almost 10 weeks post op my arm will not heal wound is approx 10cm by 7cm im in alot of pain ive taken allergic reactions to a lot of dressings n then took 2 infections tissue viability wasn't contacted until i was referred back to my own gp practice from district nurses at week 6 post op.
Nurse at gp practice has had to swab again as arm is in agony i can barely move it and its suspected i have another infection. Tissue viability is due back out to check if what they suggested has worked it hasn't. Then yesterday i get a call from the consultants secretary to explain they were cancelling my appointment as consultant is unavailable and unsure when they will return. Now I still haven't had update on my surgery I'm already 2 weeks over my post op check up I explained about my arm not healing and infections to be told in the mean time contact your gp if theres problems and its sore.
I'm in constant contact with gps 3 times a week still to get dressings changed gp has explained its consultant i need to see they are the specialists. Dont get me wrong secretary wasn't nasty just wasn't helpful at all when i explained about I'm still getting dressings changed 3 times a week their response was to go silent and i had to say its an emergency so when they're back i need appointment asap. If they don't have return date approximately then think i should be referred to see someone else immediately especially when I've explained circumstances and how bad arm is and no one can seem to help.
I have a 3 year old who i can't lift or do things for as i physically cant use my arm properly and I'm in a lot of pain. She has been sick and i couldn't lift her to comfort her, her dad had to do this is quite distressing for both myself and her. I cant drive either as pain is too much in my arm.
Very disappointed in way i have been treated by both inverclyde royal and Royal Alexandria as thats where my consultant appointment was due to be.
