"Visit to A &E"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Have been having trouble with my thumb after a fall nearly eight weeks ago, finally after a night awake went to A & E . The lady on reception was very helpful and attentive, was then seen by a nurse who informed me that I should have gone to my Doctors. I explained that I have been to Doctors several times and been referred to the Orthopaedic Hand clinic. Eventually I was seen by Nurse Practitioner who went through my records and found that an Xray taken just said no breaks or fractures, but failed to say that an Osteophytic Spur was the cause of the problem. They said that they would inform my Doctor of their findings, and as yet I have not heard anything from them. If it was not for the nurse being very thorough this would not have been found.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave you comments, I am sorry that your X-ray results were not fully explained to you in the first instance and for any discomfort that this has given you. I will make sure that all departments involved are aware of your experience and where they could have improved the service you received, and the team in A & E see how they made a difference to your care. Many thanks
