"Disgusting behaviour (Nurses ward 18)"

About: Freeman Hospital

I was told by a visiting relative that my 99 year old friend had been spoken to in an abrupt manner by two nurses on ward 18. This information came from her mother another patient in the opposite bed, who had been listening to them telling her adruprly to stand up...stand up...The curtains were drawn around her bed so she couldn't see them but could hear them. My friend cannot even weight bear so wouldn't have been able to do what they said. When I questioned my friend about this she told me she was then pushed on the bed. I asked her if she wanted me to complain but she said no. I am disgusted if this is true. I have no reason to not believe either accounts. The lady in the bed opposite was of sound mind in her 70s and my friend even though is 99 has a perfect mental capability.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and highlighting your concerns. We take the safety and dignity of our patients extremely seriously and always want to ensure that care is being delivered to the highest standard and we would have hoped these concerns could have been highlighted to the ward sister at the time, so that the issues could be addressed immediately.

If you would like to discuss this confidentially and to provide us with further details, we would like to investigate this matter further. Please contact Matron Lisa Guthrie on 0191 28 29589 or Ewan Dick, Directorate Manager for Medicine on 0191 282 9580 who would be willing to listen to your concerns.
