"A&E & ESS"

About: Broomfield Hospital / Accident and emergency

My 16 yr old son was taken by ambulance to a&e on Sunday due to have an epileptic seizure and banging his head hard. Ambulance service was brilliant. My son was admitted to a&e and put in a room and we waited 30 mins for someone to see him. A doctor came in and asked about his epilepsy/medication. He wasn't on any at the time but due to this seizure he would be out back on it. The doctor wanted me to leave my son and go home to get the letter I had with the name of the medication on it. When I asked if they could get the info from my son's records they said they weren't sure they had the time!! We were moved to ESS for observation. I found the nurses rude, slow and unhelpful. The nurses saw it beneath them to empty a man's catheter bag and expressed this. Whenever I asked questions I was met with disapproving looks and a mumbled reply. The only person on that ward that was helpful and polite was the HCA, Who restored my faith that there are few people worth employing in the NHS. Anyone can see where the problems lie in NHS. FIrstly the quality of staff needs to improve and nurses need to go back to the attitudes of 20 years ago where emptying catheter bags and such like and part of their job and not to be so lazy!! Not impressed with my first and hopefully last experience of ESS!!!!!!
